The speech that struck me most was the one given by Nelson Mandela. In high school I wrote an 8 page paper on apartheid South Africa and I find the topic very interesting. I find Mandela to be a very great man of morals and wisdom. It's definitely the most important, in my eyes, because racism and segregation have been huge problems in almost every country at one point or another in history and Mandela's actions stand as a model for other leaders. Perhaps one day, with people such as Mandela, we will rid the world of racism and segregation. "South Africa will be like the microcosm of the new world that is striving to be born."
After this speech was given, South Africa became Democratic and Mandela became the 11th president of SA. South Africa is now a desegregated country but does suffer a bit from reverse racism, as the black people now have hatred towards the white. Today, the biggest issues for South Africa are politics, economics, and health of the people, with AIDS being very common within the country.

ReplyDeleteIt's awesome how Mandela was able to be a perfect example of how to change the government from being completely racist to allowing a black president within 40 or so years, and accomplished that through completely peaceful means. He is an example to many other countries still in the grips of racism in the government.
