The speech that I chose to write about was Nelson Mandela, the End of Apartheid. By reading this speech, I found out that South Africa was very racially divided. Through Nelson Mandela serving as president, he helped unite South Africa and helped bring an end to apartheid. He has also helped by trying to end racism around the world, “Let a new age dawn!” Nelson Mandela taught me that if you have strong beliefs about something and your hearts in it, then anything is possible.
Since this speech, South Africa has become a very diverse place; many cultures now live there in harmony. Health has now become the biggest issue in South Africa. The most prevalent health issue is AIDS, with over 20% of adults infected with AIDS and up to 31% of pregnant women found to be HIV positive. AIDS has resulted in many orphans. It is estimated that there are 1.2 million orphans in South Africa. Research to solve these issues is still being conducted, but no solution as of yet.
