The speech given by Kofi Annan seemed to relate to our leaders now. Kofi Annan tells how the world is taking a step backward from global peace and the one way to discontinue the path we are headed is to promote freedom of religion and many others freedoms. Kofi Annan gives both sides of the argument and says “The obstacles to democracy have little to do with culture or religion, and much more to do with the desire of those in power to maintain their position at any cost.” He describes one reason for the world becoming less free and then says there is a greater mountain to climb, which is getting the leaders out of power.
The United Nations is an international body that was established in 1945 after W.W.II in order to uphold peace among 51 countries. This organization was unable to completely fulfill its mission at the beginning because of the Cold War. As time went on, the objective to make the world a safer place began to be realized. This group provides nations with assistance from disease, illiteracy, hunger and many other global issues. The United Nations inspires countries to respect each other’s rights and to encourage nations to work together for the good of their people.
