The speech that moved me the most was Nelson
Mandela’s 1993 Nobel Peace Prize speech because he spoke of the future of South
Africa. He was not bitter about his years of imprisonment and the way he spoke
of building and maintaining a democratic government seemed to be hopeful. He
said that he hopes that other countries will establish democratic governments.
I learned that if you stick to your convictions you can cause the change that
you want to see. “ Let the efforts of us all prove that he [Martin Luther King
Jr.] was not a mere dreamer when he spoke of the beauty of genuine brotherhood
and peace being more precious than diamonds or silver or gold” ( Mandela 633).
In 1994 Nelson Mandela
became the eleventh president of South Africa and his successor Thabo Mbeki
took over in 1999. Many people are worrying about Nelson Mandela’s health because
he is 92 years old now. He does not make as many public appearances as he once
had and his last appearance was at the soccer World Cup in 2010. He had a respiratory
infection that landed him in the hospital earlier this year. The African
National Congress and president tried to make the public more at ease over the
rumors of his health and he is currently well and at home.
These ideas seemed so far fetched at the time, but look at us now. this is the whole reason i like to rebel against modern day laws and rules. lolz
ReplyDeleteNelson Mandela is a really great man, the fact that he was in prison for twenty seven years and then became president is awesome. watch the movie Invictus its about Mandela
ReplyDeleteOver looking your past to help those and to look to the future is one of the best things that you can do. Also living up to the age of 92 is pretty good.
ReplyDeleteHis story is really inspiring because he didn't let any part of his life, including his prison sentence, hold him back. I think it is great that even with his health not being really good he is still working toward his goals in the African political system.
ReplyDeleteone of the things that is so inspriring when it comes to mandela is the fact that he not only wants a free africa but he wants other countrys to be free as well.
ReplyDeleteMandela really teaches us to stand our ground when it comes to rights and equality. He teaches us to not take everything as it comes, but to assess everything and take action if needed. Hes very inspiring and gives hope to all.
