The Great Peacemaker

One person who is a great inspiration to me is Abraham Lincoln. In today's politically divided world, I am in awe of how Lincoln was able to lead the country through it's greatest challenge, the Civil War, and still be able to keep the United States from descending into anarchy. When the country was finally united, Lincoln was not cruel, he did not punish or repress the South. Though his assassination cut his efforts sort, Lincoln wanted to bring the North and South back together, and bury all the evil that had occured between the two. This is a lesson I believe groups like our political parties today could learn from.
People today could learn from Lincoln in that no matter what difficulties we go through, people showed never turn on or hold grudges against their fellow citizens. He showed us that we must overcome internal conflict and come together as a single nation in order to face the future.

  1. He wasn't ever about bringing down the south in a negative way, but to neutralize them. I too find it interesting that after it all, he still had the decency to not punish them more.

  2. I agree, I think Lincoln really taught that putting one's differences aside and working together really helps unite people and countries. And yes, I think politicians nowadays can further learn from his example.

  3. I admire Abraham Lincoln's courage throughout the whole Civil War. Many times it would have been easier to just give up and let the South secede, but Lincoln persevered and reunited the country. I think that modern politicians could learn a lot from Lincoln, especially in dealing with enemies. It amazes me how Lincoln still treated the South well after they lost the Civil War.

  5. I have to say that Lincoln is one of the coolest guys in history. He managed to keep the US together, and was on of the great presidents. You can't help but wonder what other great things would have come from him if he hadn't have been assasinated. Cool guy, great hero.

  6. I think that Abraham Lincoln was the best president in history because he fought to keep America together. It is amazing he did the things he did because he only had about a year of formal education.
